Default MAK 90 Converted (pro) Vs. Arsenal SAM7 UF

Updated with pics and more info on post #15 below.

Can only have one for the same deal. Which one is your pick and why? BTW, what’s current market value of both?

ETA: More info #4 below.

Chicoms get loose quick from my experience. Milled Arsenals would be my choice without a second thought.

Is it a milled MAK or stamped?

Sorry for not making it clear. Here’s more details:

Mak 90: Stamped with all matching serials. Stand wood furniture all around. Super clean and just missing the cleaning rod.

SAM7 UF: factory like new.

The sam is the way to go unless the mak 90 is a completely converted double folder, and even then I would choose the sam 7. The sam 7 is a factory built rifle and if you were ever to sell it you are more likely to get your money back from it then a mak 90. The mak 90's are great rifles, I have a stampled mak 90 uf with a european underfolder and its a good rifle but does not compare to my milled rifles. Now if it was a milled mak 90 with the UF installed (turbothis does those conversions), it would be harder to choose between the two. I have a milled mak 90 and was thinking about going this route but I did not want to cutup a unfired rifle...

If it's gonna be a shooter then get the arsenal. It will hold around the lower 1k range always.

Go with the factory SAM7 over the mak conversion. SAM performance is on par with a mak-90 and is simply a better investment.

The SAM7 is worth more and it's probably the better gun imo. But underfolders suck balls to shoot imo. Can't stand them.
I would pass on both of them and find something better down the road.

Well, picked up (traded) for the MAK 90. It's in excellent condition with all matching serials. It got everything right except the stupid handguard retainer without the hole for the cleaning rod. Can I just drill a hole and be done with it or need to replace the whole handguard retainer?

BTW, the action is super smooth (much smoother than my other AKs: SGL21-61, SLR-107R, WASR10, etc...). It's also cheaper than the SAM7 UF.

SAM7UF no question or doubt about it. Milled receiver over stamped, 2 locking lug UF stock over single, factory gun with threaded barrel and bayo lug over 'conversion' of unknown quality, and the SAM7UF is a much newer production rifle over any MAK90.

SAM7 is a better quality and it's Bulgarian.

I had a similar circumstance, where I was about to purchase a SAM7UF last summer that I had wanted since they came out, and then a board member here posted his converted spiker MAK90 for trade/sale.

I picked up the MAK90 because it's not often they come around like this, converted and all. I rarely see them for sale debanned.

And guess what? I got the SAM7UF last week because they are still in stock. Both are beautiful shooters, BTW.

When it comes to conversions, I am cautious unless I know the person who did the work and also which parts exactly were used.

I am wondering just how much of a conversion that MAK90 is? The OP says no cleaning rod, so that leads me to think (could be wrong?) that it hasn't had the front sight base or gas block swapped out. Personally, that work is 100% necessary in my opinion.

Just putting a pistol grip and UF stock on, isn't a full conversion in my book.

No brainer Sam7UF,quality,accuracy ,dependability, always in demand. And a great shooter if you set it up right.

Update with pics. The SAM7 UF is more expensive and I am looking for a shooter (hate the UF). Also got some extra stuffs with this package as pictured. With my untrained eyes, I say it’s about 95% new. I believed it’s not a complete conversion (need the gas block and proper handguard retainer but I don’t care since it’s not a collector piece or care about the resale value. I was out mid 900s for the package.

Drill a hole in the HG retainer.
The gas block on a spiker is milled to only use the sides of the cleaning rod hole or the spiker will hit it.
It really isn't worth the trouble, I've seen many without the gas block swap on a spiker.
Now, it would be different if it didn't have the spiker front sight.

Beautiful rifle. Love the blued finish on the MAKs. Goes good with wood.

Mak conversion all day long. You will tire of the SAM and they are everywhere. Can be had on any corner
