Default Sam7 took a hit

Alright was out shooting Saturday and went through couple mags and halfway down . My hammer dropped then all saw was smoke . Cleared the mag and the brass was stuck in the chamber field stripped it and took my cleaning rod popped the shell out . The shell exploded n the Sam7 and took it like a champ didn’t no anything to it lol kept shooting straight after that. Kept the brass case and was just now looking at it says .223 wth and the only brass I bought was PPU . And I sold my 5.56 ak a long time ago . Look at the neck tho doesn’t even look like .223 weird just glad my Sam is ok . No more PPU for me

I guess my inner ruh-tard is acting up.

Is SAM 7 chambered 7.62x39? Was this a .223 round loaded in a 7.62 mag?

If yes, then how the heck did that happen? And - it "chambered" far enough for the firing pin to detonate it?

Enquiring 'tards want to know!

Looks like maybe a 300 blk snuck into your mag. Do you have anything chambered in 300 blk?

Case neck looks unusually long and although it appears to be head stamped 223 Rem the shoulder is not where it should be on that cartridge.
Apparent case rupture due to detonation in a chamber larger than the cartridge. When it tried to expand it gave way before the chamber walls could contain it.

No 300 blackout doesnít really look like blackout either tho because I thought they chopped the .223 at the neck to make .300blk right ?

Traded for a DPMS 308 a little while back and when I got it home found a live round in the chamber with the primer dimpled on the far edge. Only problem was it was a 7.62x39 brass round that had obviously mistakenly found it's way into his 308 ammo. Don't know what that would have done if it had discharged inside the chamber not down the barrel.

Looks like a 223 fired in a 7.62x39 to me .

You or someone else loaded a 223 round in your mag.

Not likely a 300 B0 because you can see were the 22 cal throat formed into the the 7.62 neck and free bore area of the chamber.

The pressure wasent likely that high as there was no restriction of the bullet going down the bore.

Lucky you didn't get a face full of gas.

Criminals always return to the scene of the crime. And they can't help but tell their criminal stories. That's why they usually get caught.

see above
&
during firing the soft brass is going to conform to the shape of the chamber during that millisecond before the projectile leaves the shell casing.

after the projectile leaves the shell there is no internal case pressure and the odd shape of the shell is due to the pressure wave not being long enough duration to evenly spread the brass material.

& OP,
basically you screwed up and loaded a 556 round into your ak
der-der-da

I know a 5.45 will chamber and fire in a 7.62x39 rifle as well. Oops

Yea I'm not seeing anything other than 223 loaded into a 7.62x39 chamber and some how fired.

The brass tried to fire form to the chamber .

Unless someone intently loaded it in you mag I'd call it a great big OOPS .

Even if it was in your box of 7.62x39 ammo you should be looking at each round you load in a mag .
Even if it didn't look right it should have felt wrong.
A 223 round dosent fit well in a 7.62x39 mag either . The feed lips are all wrong.

I am happy it didn’t turn out worse. I fired a 40 in a 1911 45acp once. Not such a much.

The same thing happened earlier this year while I was at the range. Guy put a .223 into his 7.62x39 VEPR FM-47. It sounded odd but fired it fine. Of course the case was stuck, but other than that there were no issues.

Happened to my sgl21 a few years ago, thousands of rounds since and it's been 100%. It was however embarrassing and I didn't have a cleaning rod with me that day...

Embarrassed to say that the same thing happened to me. A 223 Tula round got loaded into my Sam 7.

The rifle is a freaking champ! Absolutely no damage to the gun or myself. Got the case out and gave the gun at cleaning and it's 100%. I love that rifle :-)

I wasn't there, but I found out when I loaned my buddy my Makarov, he took it to the range and shot 9mm Luger through it. Not as big of a deal, but apparently he didn't notice any problems...

Shoulder geometry is too far off for a .300BO.

I've on one occasion, loaded a .223 into a mini 30 mag as I had the ammo sitting side by side like a dumb ass.

Didn't chamber but it made me a little more careful when I looked down and saw it holding the action open.
