Zero mods to the handguard. Comes with 2 shims that fill the space on the front of the receiver. Two different thicknesses on the shims. Mine needed the thicker one. The shims have a hole for the cleaning rod to pass through. Locks up super tight.

Mine came with the kit. Any Hungarian wood grips would work if you can find them. Or check with outifts like Ironwood Designs if parts count is an issue.

Thanks, I picked it up off Gunbroker, has a AUSA reciever and it like new. I picked up a like new kit on GB that was listed as a AMD 65 kit but noticed a butt stock an upon further inspection realized it was a AKM 63 not AMD 65 so bid on it and got it for $350. Bought a NDS 1 reciever and am sending it off to the builder today. It'll be neat to have a couple of AKM 63's

That's pretty damned good for a AMD 63 kit. They're almost as rare as hens teeth these days, and the prices usually reflect that.

Why would anyone want a AMD65 w/o the front pistol grip? It should help stabilize muzzle rise and if your not using the should stock, it's as close to a Tommy Gun you're going to get and for way less than half the cost. May not look as cool but even in semi auto fire you can flat lay some lead down in a spray fire.

Good point, but it looks kick-ass the way he did it, and its easily swapped back and forth.

Thanks guys. And i really dont need the forward pistol grip because its not select fire so no full auto. But like uncledoodoo said its easily swapped back and forth if i wanted to. I use this rifle for coyote hunting and it works great at that, throw it around and dont worry about the finish getting scratched or if gets nicks so it works for me. Thanks again for the comments guys.

teambeast, where'd you get your AMD? Is it blued or painted? (well, what's left of the finish that is LOL)

Its one of the ones from centerfire systems and it was painted, pretty sure all tgi amd-65 rifles are painted.

That's what I thought, but your "relic" job looks like it was worn bluing instead of paint. Did you use the steel-wool and oil trick or something else?

I used some very fine sand paper to start it off and then some steel wool and even some scotch brite pads. Be sure to oil it often so you see how much finish you have taken off, you dont want take all the finish off the rifle. It takes a lot of patience thats for sure.

Having fired a F/A AMD 65, the brake on that particular model is more than sufficient to compensate for muzzle climb. Shoot, the rifle I posted about on the previous page was also fired by my wife, which was also her first time with a MG. She had no problems maintaining with it.

not in KALIFORNIA dude, foward pistol grip is one of the evil features that constitutes a assault weapon + detachable magazine..one additional thing to worry about..IT LOOKS AWESOME though

With the AMD, the downside personally for me was the long naked gas tube on top. Just get a standard gas tube. cut it to the proper length and flare the front end using a press and some socket wrenches. This opens up a whole new world of design for the AMD. I can show you detailed pics of how the front end was done but it was really only machine shop 101. You shorten a standard gas tube to fit an AMD and your head will be flooded with ideas. Rest assured.

Here's mine. A TGI build. Shoots great, the forward pistol grip really works for me. The cheek riser makes a world of difference too.

Yes, I've kept it 922r compliant, with a U.S made gas piston and U.S. made followers and floorplates in the surplus mags. And the flash hider is permanently attached too!

Not that I agree with either reg, 922r or min. barrel length, but when it comes to federal gun laws I like to play it safe!

That is a Red Star Arms FCG. It works fantastic. Smooth as glass.
Got it set as a two-stage trigger, very little overtravel with a 3.5 lb trigger pull.
It's the best trigger FCG on the market for all AKs and PSLs.
