Big full page ad from SOG in the Shotgun News.

The laminate stock is what got my attention. Only ones with at the time as the Russian SKSs had yet to make here.

Israel captured tons upon tons of weapons and gear from the PLO during the invasion of S. Lebanon.
Seen pictures of semi dump trailers overflowing with AKs and other small arms.

Lots of cool a stuff was unloaded on to the surplus market.

I remember complete. Inert sagger ATGMs w/suitcase launchers, AK/AKM kits, working LPO-50 flamethrowers....l

My RPG-7 is an Israeli capture, as well as my laminated /26\ Type 56. Got a nice PLO chest rig as wells.......those were the days.
The top 2 in my pic are also IC. The top one has sand inside the stock and the other has the dark gritty shellac understood to be a refurb from a mideast country... it is also a 1955 with a Д suffix to the serial number. (It's number 4 on that page.)

I guess I would have to say Chinese since I've owned so many of them over the years.

Out of what I own and have shot I would go,
Russian
Chinese
Yugo.

Never got to handle or shoot any Romy or Albanian SKSs yet.

Probably later production commercial Chinese
They are light, handy, and rugged. The Yugos and military type SKS from other countries get pretty heavy after a while, even with fiberglass stocks.

My favorite is the Yugoslavian 59/66A1. I love the beefy feel they have, and all I’ve owned have been very accurate. I also like the battle worn Chinese Sks rifles.

I think the Russian SKS's are the best SKS rifles I've handled. They're super nice by in large and I can't really knock them. But I have a fondness for the Chinese models. Near the bottom of my list are the Yugo models. I'm not really a Yugo fan of AK's either.

I really appreciate Romanian AK's, never handled a Romanian SKS though. Very possible I would fall in love with them as well based on my fondness of Romanian AK's. You never know though?
right on, Russian!

Can I ask what kind of stock you fit your SKS Sporter into? I have one too, but when I bought it, it came with a crappy ATI polymer stock. I'd really like to put a wood stock on it, but I'm not sure if I need to fit a stock to it, or if it drops in.

My Russian 1954 non refurb is my favorite. Have a 1950 refurb too but I hate that it's a refurb. Haven't bought a Chinese one yet. Would like an SKS M or D though. My Yugo 59/66 is unfired.

Yugoslavia. I know a lot of people don't like them but I love them. They are the most unique and really stand out from all the other SKS models.

Another vote for Chinese.

The trigger/safety/action on both of my Chicoms are just a bit slicker/smoother than on my Russians.

Is it too late to make this thread a poll?

This thread is about to put my restoration project in high gear. I’ve never had or held a Chinese blade bayo version till I found one at a LGS. Bayonet removed, stock sanded and painted black. Found a new bayo from a friend and need to strip the pain then redo with the proper amber shellac finish. The Chinese spikers have been near to me since I was a kid, shot my first hog with a Chinese spiker and copper washed soft points that my dad gave me. That good looking rifle took a real good meat sow and dropped her like a rock

My neighbor had a Yugo but it would jam on a regular basis.
I’ve handled several Russian refurbs at the gun show and was not really impressed.

I recently picked up a ‘68 Norinco /256\ and it’s in great condition.
Just added a sling chest rig and a correct cleaning kit.

Probably this, although the Romys don’t seem to slouch and my Yugo is well built

My Yugo, I guess, since it's my only one. Trigger group is with Tom Prince at the moment. I wanted a Yugo so I can lunch "tennis balls" at the enemy.

I have Russian, Zastava and Chinese. I like them all.
The Navy Arms and Century imported scoped and/or short rifles are in the "cool" factor category. Type 84, para etc.

But all are fun to shoot and handle well.

I've owned more than a dozen sks rifles over the years and used to collect them. I sold all but 2 including my 2 Russians because I got top dollar for them. I kept my Yugo 59/66 from Saamco that is mint with a beautiful heavy stock. I put tech sights on her and enjoy shooting her because of the weight. My poor man's M1A even though I have on of those too. I also kept a very nice early Chinese letter gun. Blueing g is beautiful and I keep her 100% original.
