Default Why is .22 so hard to get?

I understand the basic dynamics of the ammo panic, but WHY is .22LR so hard to find? Those preparing for the zombie apocalypse surely aren't planning to defend themselves and lead warlord armies with Marlin model 60s, right?

.22 is plinking ammo for plinking guns. Why am I seeing prices on 500 round bricks rivaling 54R?!

I am not feeding the profiteers. I am buying as smart as I can buy. I was very happy to pick up 975 rounds (three boxes of 325) or .22LR at WallyWorld. That will get me a good way down the road for .22.

Because Uncle Sugar said "NO!"

Plus, they make more money off the larger calibers atm.

IMO most sheeple that own a gun and it's sitting in the closet it's a .22 rifle
And some of them woke up and realized hey I have this 100 rounds of ammo
I better fucking buy more

Then there's people like us it's not reall much effort for one to have 20k rounds of .22lr laying around its cheap great for plinking like you said
Doesn't weight shit and is easily storable

So people like us went out and bought it in droves

Then we have the newbs oh a 200 rifle (.22) ill take it and as much ammo as I can get

Whenever a "panic" sets in, no one want's to shoot their fighting caliber ammo for fear of not being able to restock it. So they continue practice/fun at the range with 22lr, as it's been the cheapest ammo to get. The problem is, due to it being the cheapest, EVERYONE is doing the same thing, thus "poof!" ... all out of stock.

When the financial collapse happens, this ammo will be one of the common bartering tools.

When prices drop, I will buy at least 3K of .22 and I need 2K of 7.62x39.
I know that prices will never be like they were, but they will drop.
My question is why aren't we getting 7.62x39? There not even made in the U.S. Someone is cornering the market.

I don't see more people shooting 22lr at the range. I don't see fewer people shooting 223/556/762. All this ammo is sitting in someone's garage....probably not even in cans.

Because you can get the most ammo for less. And if you look at it, its still cheaper than the 223/5.56 rounds.

Been going to the range more frequently, and been hearing alot more 22lr pistol/rifles going off than any other round. And alot of them peek into my private bay when they hear my 7.62 drum rapidfiring with the what the rich fuck is shooting look.

this

I sold off my .22's... if the ammo is gonna cost almost as much as a full power caliber anyways Id rather shoot the guns I enjoy more.. I know thats an exaggeration a little bit, but still at $.10/r+ it's really not that fun unless you have children... just buy a nice air rifle if you want cheap practice or small game hunting. Practice with the guns youll actually need for self defense if you can spare the ammo... currently the bigger calibers are easier to find anyways.

There WAS an old milspec conversion kit. If you can find one nowadays, they are quite expensive due to their collectible nature. It was significantly different in design than the newer Ciener-based designs that are sold commercially by CMMG, Spike's and others.

Why? Because most Americans are lazy "Johnny Come Lately Whores" and will suck up any product 'after the fact' because they had that whole "it will always be available" attitude.

The same thing happened when the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant went to shit. People were bitching because the vendors that held inventory in Potassium Iodide tablets jacked up the price to $100 per 14 tablets. The Kalifornian idiots were crying like a bunch of little bitches wanting the govt to step in and hand them some for free. Today those same packages are $7.50 for 14 tablets ALL DAY LONG. Are those same people stocking up? OR are they going to wait until something happens again and then act like bitchy little sorority girls?

Why do I own so much .22lr ammo? Because I took advantage of simple economics over the past 15 years and the dumbasses that aren't bright enough to understand that concept will get beat down like a redheaded stepchild every time. Is it hoarding when someone owns 100,000 rounds of .22lr at an average price of .035 cents a round? No, it's being smart.

Its sorta going in waves. In that most shooters are fucking sheep, and migrate all at once to a new caliber.

Here's a fun timeline:
~Retarded faggotry in conneticut
~People get undies wrapped around dicks
~PMAG's disappear
~223 Skyrockets, and retards paying $2-3 a round
~other centerfire rifle calibers disappear (308, 300BLK, ect)(pistol still avail)
~9mm disappears like a fart in the wind
~22lr Disappears
~223/x39 come down in price
~people move to 7.62x54r

The final stage is the one that pissed me off, because most of these fucking retards didnt give half a shit about 54r, and now its the affordable caliber, so every dipshit is buying a moist nugget and crates of 54r. Right as good match 54r made it out to the public, its getting snagged by incompetent morons who know less than shit about firearms.

It's not.

http://www.gunbot.net/ammo/762x39/

It's more expensive than it was before the panic, but a LOT cheaper than how much .223 and 5.56x45 costs now.
