Galil Sniper SA

The brass must really be bouncing around in that room. Look at the case on his left elbow, the opposite side of the ejection port.

Very cool indeed!

They're mostly used on AKs who's operator is a door kicker or works in CQB. The device focuses concussion forward rather than to the sides so their teammates don't suffer from the blast.

It also reduces flash significantly. Downside is the weight and back pressure.

It's a "Calico Jack". Our SEALs and SF have been wearing it for years. Just more Russians copying US.

I met this chump in the sandbox rocking an RPK.

Rolling gangster style in his Brandy New Toyota SUV.
Must be nice to have f**king AC!

We didn't even have AC in most of our humvees!

Iraqi's like getting their picture taken.

Look closely at the dude riding shot gun sporting the thumbs up!

Local Armenian Syrian neighborhood militia in Aleppo.
Already given casualties the Armenians are holding their flag and will continue to stand ground with AKs against theses Islamist terrorists squads targeting Christians.

Yes, but in the west. There are many versions of that skull and some are with swords or sabers or bones... It is connected to Orthodox fate and was used as sign of Orthodoxy and sucrifice. Russians started to use it in their army in napoleonic wars

but they had tradition long before it is used also in Kulikovo battle at 1380

There were versions of flags (and still exist) in Orthodoxy with skulls as "Othodoxy or death" or "Православие или смрт" and in greek "Orthodoxia i thanatos"

from WWI -

Serbs and Greeks have same Orthodox tradition and used it also...

off topic: I really would like to visit Russia some day, I like the people. I work in retail, and I live in Park City, Utah. We get a lot of people from various parts of the world during the winter, usually for the skiing, some on vacation, others presumably training for the Olympics. Out of all the customers I've dealt with, the Russian ones have always been the most courteous, even more than the US ones I get. Of course, that may just be my experience.

The only thing those have in common are the skulls... The Calico Jack is not a skull and crossbones, its a skull with sabers.

The patch in question wasn't any old Jolly Roger, it is a Calico Jack. It isn't about the ancient history or the origins of said flag but, more the current usage of extra swag(not part of official uniform) being worn by modern war fighters.

Photo thread;

Even the Calico Jack isn't the property of the SEALs, badass folks as they are, especially considering that it was made famous by a man who lived over 200 years before the SEALs came into existence.

The Kornilov badge in Boot's post shows the crossed swords as well. There were lots of death's head motifs in the Russian Civil War, a number of which had crossed swords.

And Boot's Kulikovo picture doesn't show the skull and cross-bones as part of a military insignia or sign, but as part of the traditional Orthodox depiction of the cross - the skull and crossed bones represent the bones of Adam, which are shown beneath the cross ready to be made new by the blood of Christ. It's on the mantle worn by all monks of a certain rank (these men are monks, a number of whom were present at the battle of Kulikovo).

Back to the main purpose of the thread:

I found the following photo when catching up on Ukraine news:

The article (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...announced.html) labels these as "Ukrainian Special Forces"

Am I looking at the photo correctly, or is the guy in the foreground going to have problems if he actually has to fire his rifle?

Armenian freedom fighters during the Nagorno- Karabagh war 1988-1994

The guy on the left on the com is Monte Melkonian ....an American Armenian who became a commander in the war, turned it around that led to victory. The Tank in the back ground is a confiscated enemies tank.
RIP Monte, KIA......a true Hero and a military strategy genius.

There were not just present - they were fighting there as warrior-monks.
