Default Dead Air Wolverine AK Suppressor

Any of you guys see these yet? (I searched & didn't see any threads)

http://deadairsilencers.com/product/wolverine-pbs-1/

I was pretty psyched when I saw that Dead Air was coming out with a PBS-1 looking suppressor. They're supposed to be releasing end caps with all the standard com bloc thread pitches too.

I've got one on order. Not sure how long it will take for the transfer to my FFL or how long the approval process for the form to go through the new/non-trust process, but I can wait.

When it eventually comes in I'll get some video of it running on some different AK's and see how it compares to my other .308 cans.

I'm interested, but the AK is hard to suppress. And I don't know if I want to dump the money into something like that

Yeah I hear you on the $. Not cheap but I'm buddies with my FFL so he's hooking me up.

I'm sure him & I will drag it out for testing before my stamp comes through.

Forgot to check what the minimum barrel length is for this can.

Guys, I have spend some time shooting suppressed AKS. For average usage, I honestly don't see the point suppressing those rifles. AK will go crazy hot after 30 rds when suppressed. So your fun will be limited when at the range. Now, when hunting, that's a totally different case - highly recommended solution.
Also, any suppressor up front adds even more weight to already front heavy rifle...so yes, they are cool, but you really have to know what you want to do with it...

So I dont know much about cans on AK's, but for it to be really effective wouldnt you need custom/handloads to not be supersonic? And some changes to make it reliable with those loads?

And is it completely hearing safe when suppressed like a 22 or 9mm with subsonic ammo? seems unlikely. But my only experience shooting guns with cans is in 9 and 22.

If you still need ear protection I dont really get it. Seems like alot of dicking around with a less-than-stellar end result. Like a sleeping bag that only comes up to your knees. It "kinda" does its job.

Maybe I just dont get it.

New supressors don't require you to use subsonic ammo.
Most of them does decent job to the point that you can shoot without ear pro.

Rarely do I disagree with Rob but I do here. Like him, I shoot suppressed guns all the time. I do not recommend doing this without ear pro.

Lots of data out there documenting this but, for example, an AK or AR with standard ammo will still damage your hearing if you shoot more than a few rounds through it. You may not notice it happening nor have ringing but it'll happen.

Hearing damage occurs from a mix of things, of which a combination of "loudness" (db rating) and exposure time are a big part. The more rounds in one session = longer exposure time = more hearing damage.

Mike, I think you misunderstood me little bit, perhaps because I wasn't clear enough. You can shoot it without the ear pro, if you have to -> like when hunting for example. But just to sit and blast rounds on paper, I would still wear ear pro.
So yes, I agree with you that ear pro is still highly recommended.

As long as something can be done about the eating of propellant most modern rifles cause when suppressed, I much prefer shooting with than without suppressors even using standard supersonic ammo. It's much more comfortable than without and I value my hearing enough to keep what tinnitus I have from getting any worse. What I don't like is hanging a 1lb weight off the end of a barrel; Titanium cans are the way to go for me.

This thing will be sweet on my SLR 107UR sbr as it won't be too front heavy. Apparently it should work well on PDW type guns of all origins because it focuses on reducing blowback instead of trying to be as quiet as possible. Should have the typical dead air barrel length restriction; which is no barrel length restriction.

I saw some teaser vid somewhere and the person making the video (I have no idea who it was at this point) said that the new can accounts for issues with barrel concentricity. How does it do that?

The baffle holes are probably .5" and the end cap .6".

The wait is officially over! The highly anticipated Dead Air Wolverine PBS-1 suppressor are available to order now via Capitol Armory. I placed my order prior to midnight.

I like the look. But it won't do 9mm which is a must for me. My next can will be a Mystic X or hunter town arms 7.62 can.

That's one of the nicest looking flashlights I've seen in a while.

Interested in getting one of these but will see how they perform first. Kestrel AK owner, so will wait this one out for a while.

I think it looks pretty cool. I also understand that a suppressed AK isn't really that practical, but I still enjoy the shit out of mine. I think it would serve great for hunting where you only need a few rounds and want to hear what's going on. I shoot mine(5.45x39) a bit and it works fine. Not the quietest thing, but it is really fun. If I had a 7.62x39 I'd be really interested in working up some sub rounds.

Is this in your possession? Appears it can be disassembled? Can we see the guts?

No, unfortunately. My Form 3 was submitted two weeks ago and they are estimating 6-8 weeks for approval. I will upload photographs + videos once my FFL receives it. I am fortunate that my preferred FFL (The Nashville Armory) has a indoor range that I can shoot my cans while they await approval.

I am a member of an nfa group on Facebook. The dead air guys were pushing video after video of them shooting and handling the rifle with can on it. This is probably the best ak suppressor ever made from what I saw in the videos. Locks up crazy tight, and sounded great. I will be snagging one for my 107 for sure. There was quite a few people chomping at the bit for them on the group. And coming from that group, there are a ton of major nfa players on it. The owner claims 136-138 db @ muzzle and 138-142 at election port. The winner of it all is the reduced blowback.

Can't wait to order it personally.

From what I'm seeing what makes the Wolverine PBS-1 so special for the AK is that they designed it specifically to reduce back pressure and also with large diameter internal baffles going as big as .40 and the end cap is also oversized and replaceable with various sizes to account for rifle that do not have concentric threads. I love the fact that this suppressor was built for the AK first, by some true AK lovers. This article is from June but has a lot of technical details about its design and such and also talks about the new Arsenal and Gemtech suppressor collaboration which is also badass
