Every time I look one is selling for more than the last. Can't say I ever thought I would see the day a NIB SGL21 was a 3K rifle.
I have to wonder if in about 15 years from now (perhaps sooner) older guys on the board (assuming this board has not been outlawed as a terrorist site by then) will be posting "Remember when we could import and own AKs and they only cost about 700 dollars for Romanian ones?"

I tell you what. The people who own Arsenal are making a frickin' fortune on the SGL and Bulgarian SLR-series rifles.

I remember years ago there was a time their prices were actually reasonable but they started raising their prices and people kept buying so they raised their prices some more .....and people kept buying so now their prices are in the stratosphere and they are still selling all they have.

And they even brought in a new batch of VEPRs recently too.

Damn, Butch. Wish my uncle owned arsenal.

Depends on what it is. I paid $3200 including tax and NICS for my SCAR 17, and sold 5 guns to fund it (plus accessories). Well worth it, and should have done it long ago.

At this stage in my firearms hobby, I buy once cry once and believe you get what you pay for. I've thinned out my collection. I'd rather have 10 quality rifles than a safe full of cheap stuff.

Of course panic inflated prices I'm not paying.

It won't take 15 years but there's no doubt it'll happen. And it won't just be imported AK's it'll likely be all guns period but most certainly all semi-autos in general & AK's & AR's in particular.

I paid 1300 for an arsenal a few years ago..
Looking back I should have bought five Saigas instead.
I.don't care what anyone says
Saiga>Arsenal

Having a side folder doesn't make the rifle worth 1000+ imo.

Arsenals have also had the worse canted sights of any aks I've owned.

I got into Saigas after I was already an arsenal owner. I don't drink the Arsenal coolaid anymore.

I own some really expensive guns, so I'm not just a cheap ass... But when it comes to AKs, I have a really hard time justifying more than 700-800 ( which I still personally think is high ). As well sure as shit don't think a wasr is worth 700 bucks, you would be lucky to get me to pay 500 for one.

I also think 6920s are way over priced at the four digit mark. Prices on everything is just completely fucked.

Well put. I just picked up my first side folder (slr107) and I'm underwhelmed.

No, in the world of Arsenal SGL 21 side folders it makes them worth $1900 + currently, although most SGL 21's aren't side folders, if you've ever really owned one.

Much more well put. I get where a n00b would be underwhelmed by the SLR - there is a steep diminishing returns that you are hitting at this price point, however the rifles offer some important collector benefits. The rest of the post about Saiga's and sidefolder's is just plane ignorance from a collectors perspective.

I really like the side folding stocks on the SGL (and the SLR). In a matter of seconds you can fold up an AK that is in every other respect a functional full sized fixed stock rifle (i.e. no rickety, uncomfortable underfolder stock) short enough so that you can carry it in a gym bag. Similarly you can extend it in seconds.

When the SGL21-94 first came out it cost only a few hundred more than the fixed stock version. If you can do the job yourself you can install a Series 100 Side Folding stock for under $300. Legion has the folding stock assemblies for $259.00 and the labor to do a decent job installing it will run in the $250-500 range

I paid roughly $600 parts and labor to have mine done. Since I only paid $500 for the rifle itself in 2009 the total cost was not too bad. It would be harder to justify $2000+ for a Saiga side folder, from a functional perspective, when SLR107FRs sell for under $1000 when they are in stock.

Well said fellow sgl21-94 owner

Funny how the few owners of the folding stock model sgl's don't seem to sell them very often

It's a stock, that happens to fold if you choose and locks up solid when not. What is there to be underwhelmed with, were you expecting it to give you a happy ending ?

The front sight block is Russian. The SGL uses the current "high collar" compensator while the SLR uses the earlier "low collar" style version.

Of all places I bought my SGL21 at Cheaper Than Dirt when it was a retail store. I thought I was overpaying at $950 but I guess the market always comes around. This was in 2012 so the prices were a little inflated. It's the nicest AK I have. It's unique in regards to the bolt carrier and bolt. The extractor is also different. It kicks empty shells out further than any AK I have. I think the FIME group are very nicely built and finished.

Totally agree with this. The SGL21-94 and the SLR107 are no better or worse than each other. They work perfectly and do exactly what they should.

And only a fool would pay that. The best deals are from individuals; a guy on our local armslist had an unfired in the box LE6920 for $825 last weekend. No tax, no paperwork, no bullshit. In most cases, if a guy wants something he just has to be patient and look.

Well sanctions came around, and the market followed. But in reality, that was roughly the same price the SLR-107FR sold for then and now, so $950 wasn't that inflated.

For every negative comment about the SGL21 the price goes up .50 cents. There is a reason why Arsenal SGL21 threads hit over 2000-3000 views in the fist week. I only login to view the hate towards Arsenal My suggestion to you folks who hate the supply and demand surrounding the Arsenal SGL21 is to just stay away from the threads that pertain to anything Arsenal. Your hate has become humorous!

I'm a SGL collector (the ones that have "Arsenal" etched in them). I currently have 6 and would let one or two go for 3K+. Don't make me show pics, y'all. I love to brag.

I bought a Saga Legion IZSL-332A 3 years ago for $975 and thought that was high. Last week I decided to buy one for my wife and nearly had a stroke seeing the market change. Spent about 10 hours online looking for something I thought worth buying. Settled on an Arsenal Sam7 called RRC Firearms and ordered one, but, after a few minutes talking to them, they said they had only 2 left and nothing else in stock, I decided to buy them both. I angst ed a little after the call but after reading all these threads all weekend I'm glad I did. Can't believe how the availability has dried up and the prices skyrocketing. With what's going on worldwide I don't see prices ever going down, or quality availability ever getting better. I just feel real lucky I stumbled into all this last week and got what I did. I wouldn't ever sell anything I have now not even for 10K$'s. Astonishing is the only word that comes to mind to describe this.

Lmao. Have you looked at what it costs to convert a Saiga into a side folder? The parts alone almost put it over $1000. Couldnt even make it through the rest of the post.

I'd love to stumble onto an affordable SGL21 or SGL31 side folder. Hopefully I'll see some rube at a gun show one of these days that doesn't know what he has.

They pop up on here every once in awhile. I got a SGL 31-94 with pistol grip plate installed for $1350 about 8 months ago
