Default Tapco G2 Triggers and bolt carrier tail mushrooming

Alright so I am sure u all have heard reports of the tapco g2 triggers causing mushrooming of metal on the tail on the rear of the bolt carrier in different ak builds. I just purcashed this cg1 rifle from atlantic and its my understanding that it comes with a G2 trigger. What steps should I take to ensure I dont get peening on the tail of the carrier from the G2 trigger? Ive heard you could reprofile the g2 trigger but id rather just replace it with one that wont do this. This is a nice build and the last thing I want happening is the bolt carrier getting beat up by the g2 trigger. If its a pita to change out the g2 trigger for one that wont do this, I suppose I could work on rounding off the hump on the G2 trigger thats thought to be responsible for the mushrooming of the rear tail on the bolt carrier. Any tips on reprofiling? Id like to swap it out for a better trigger preferably and avoid screwing with reprofiling the G2, any recommendations on a different trigger? This issue has also been reported on Rob ski youtube channel where he tests different aks out.

I had my FFL reprofile the hammer on my WBP when I picked it up. He did it on his wheel and it took him all of 3 min. Only got about 150 rnds through it but it looks fine. Gonna do the same when I pick up the CG1.

I have an extra RAK1 FCG that I plan to drop in when I get mine on Monday. The hammer is rounded. I have the same FCG in my WASR, and its considerably smoother, with no bolt hangup at all. Peppers has them for like $20 right now.

Id prefer swapping it out as well. I know you can smooth over the notch on the tapco g2 but it seems like the tapco g2 is also a little greater in the hardness department that may not help with bolt carrier tail peening. Ive heard that the Rak trigger can detonate a round when the carrier is out of battery so I may go with the alg akt trigger.

It sounds like we are getting to 922r compliant with the inclusion of the g2 trigger. Id probably be not compliant with 922r if I were to swap the trigger to a polish fcg huh? Seems like I may have to stick with american made fcg i think.

Here's my G2 re profiled by my FFL when I picked it up. Took him 3 min on his wheel.

Here's the BC tail after 150 rnds.

I know it's not many rnds but at least something to go by. When I get the CG1 I'm going to have him re profile the hammer the same way.

Screw it at 20 bucks for the rak trigger I think its worth it, gonna buy two amd install it in my other ak. Ill take a chance that I wont get that sort of detonation that was described by forum member Mel64D. Thanks for the tip Maxxsmart!

it also depends on how many were in stock... just because a couple of people are willing to snag up a few high priced items doesn't mean everything is selling gangbusters. I'm not saying Atlantic had 500 of these and sold them within a week, but I'd also not look at a "sold out" icon as proof that they are selling gangbusters and everyone is scrabbling for them. for all we know there were only 5 of them

Atlantic! Can you source the original Polish triggers that were intended to be in this gun?

As a collector of 1911's, from lower end, and production guns to those from higher end SemiCustom and Custom makers, I believe that there will always be a market for the higher end guns. Watching what happens when guns like the SGL and VEPRs and the Chicoms are no longer available backs this up. That being said,
my WBP Classic is the finest built AKM I own with the exception on the
Atlantic Russian Red VEPR.
Attention to detail, fit and finish as well as its performance rivals that of my Sam7's, and is far more finished and a better value then my SLR107-11.
The CGI with a properly marked Childers receiver is well worth the money
being asked IMHO. And I believe that Atlantic will sell every one they can deliver.
I'll be waiting in line when the next batch is ready.

Totally well said Dwe and agree with it all, even the 1911's which I like you have in the same range. The WBP's are sleepers it would be a foolish move to let one slip by you, they are extremely nice and I think fairly priced. BTW where abouts near Chitown are you? I'm originally from the So Side. When I go down to visit my buds maybe we could get some range time in. I'll bring my Nighthawk Bob Marvel for you to take for a spin you'd really like that I'm sure. Have you ever shot at Buffalo Rock?

My WBP did great through the carbine course. Had no problem beating some AR's in accuracy (but fucked up in reloads). Whatever, no need for a second shot with a 7.62 anyways

I was just about to post that in response to Steve's video lol. Rob skis AK reload technique makes the most sense if you're dumping the mags like what you (steve) are doing in your video. If you were retaining the mags, that's a different story....

Btw that's a friggen awesome video Steve. You actually managed to beat AR's in accuracy during this course? I'm sure all of us would pay to see their faces after realizing they just got schooled by a guy with a polish AK build with a Russian optic lololol xD

I have not had a chance to get under the hood. I inspected it last week when it arrived at my FFL, but have not torn down the bolt and carrier at this point. Once I get a chance, I'll break the rifle down and get some basic shots of the crucial components.

So far, everything is smooth, and perfect... Except for the classic G2 bolt hold open feature.
