Default Croat vs Yugo bho mags

Is there a difference between the two? I remember some say one is better than the other but can't remember nor find the thread.

I have one of the Croatian ones that someone gave me. I had to file the locking lug on it to get it to fit. Once I got it to fit, it fed just fine and held the bolt open on the last round as advertised. I don't really care for BHO mags though.

the new made mags are hit/miss on proper fitting.

if you can find yugo surplus mags, that is the better choice.

I'm just trying to find sub $10 mags and my Romys seem to be getting harder to find (I'll admit I haven't checked every site)

Im my experience the Serb made ones, the ones made by Zastava are the way to go. I've handled hundreds (we sell them) of them and they are really high quality. The only issue we have ever had is on occasion a customer will have to file the tab a tiny amount to make it fit less tight. And They are cheap! $99.80 for ten mags SHipped to your door.

You know, I just got some of the new zastava mags and while they all fit into both my Vepr FM47-11 & my MAK 90 fine. I took one out to the range this weekend and had two failure to feeds. First one I was using the mag to monopod & thought ok, maybe that might have something to do with it. Then the other was standing & it just choked.

Not entirely sure why yet & I think the stoppages messed up my bolt carrier by pushing it up & causing it to shave into the metal. I was cleaning it & it looked like it was rubbing, but also eating into the metal, wasn't pretty.

I dunno, I'm giving them one more range trip & we'll see. I have a theory that the one mag I was using might have a small defect, but again I'll have to see next time.

I'm just not sold on the bho. I'll probably just hold out for another batch of Romys

Oh yeah that was awesome. That's how i feel sometimes. I want them all.
But as it sits now I'm not digging anymore holes to bury these fuckers . And there's no room left here at home but i can't stop buying mags. Soon I'll have to buy my own mountain and hire BCP to dig a hole in it so i can stash em all in there.

If you want BHO, I'd try to find original surplus yugo.

Little filing...?

How about little bench grinding... Some of mine fit my Yugo and still needed serious grinding, rest had to be ground to fit anything...

But they work now... Good mags after custom grinder work...

One question: Are the new Croatian mags made for, and used by, any military? Then why not buy the milsurp?

Go for the Yugos or roll the dice on the Croatians. BHO still don't matter to me a whole lot, basically it's the price for new metal magazines that's the bottom line.

I'm not a fan of the bho. I was wondering though if I could just replace the follower and turn it into a regular mag. I have some El cheapo rusty mags that have decent followers

From what I’ve read, the BHO mags lack the dimpling of standard mags which catch the followers. So when you put a standard follower into a BHO it will rise beyond where the dimpling would otherwise be, which I don’t have a good enough imagination to figure out what happens when that occurs.

This is correct. Now we need a volunteer for testing.
In my imagination things would work fine up until maybe the last round or two. Then again, it may go off without a hitch. Or the bolt and carrier leave a crease on the follower.
Somebody has had to have done this before. Right?

Welp, I have a croat, and I have some of followers. I'll do it, but have no idea when I'll get to shoot

Guys , already been done plenty of times . Yup follower will rise to the top , will feed all rounds but , will catch the bolt like a bho follower only a % of the time it is not reliable as a bho. I have a few mags where i filed down those nipples (trainer mags now)

I have a Croatian mag that I swapped the follower with a non BHO unit and it has worked 100% of the time. In the sense that it has not accidentally held the bolt open. I have gone through 7-8 partial mag loads to test it since I swapped it.
