Default Do WASRs have ďjeweledĒ pistons ? EDIT TOOK IT HOME! new pictures

Was at a gun shop . They had a used wasr for $499. Took it apart . Overall looks good . Sights are straight but the piston looks jeweled ? Doesn’t look right to me . See the pic .

Couldn’t get a good focus

UPDATE

Took it home for $500 OTD. Not bad . It’s a 10/63 . 1976

Here’s the pics . I’m loving that plum bolt . The piston has better pics . I guess it’s not jeweling.. Is the piston welded as their is no play? The furniture has metal reinforcements which is neat . How did I do ?

Its blurry, but it kinda looks like tool chatter to me. No support in the middle of the piston when turning on a lathe with a center on the far end, so the material deflects and bounces around.

I don't know. I would take more then a cursory glance at the inside of that rifle before I bought it.

Everything else looked normal . Bolt even had some nice plum tint to it . Iíll pop the wood off tomrrow to see if I can see bubbas custom name on the barrel .

Iím sorry the picture was blurry but to me it looked like jeweling as it was uniform in dazzle . But I am not a machinist . Would something like that pass centuryís QC ? Itís kinda obvious

First piston I've ever heard described or photographed like that, so that's why my guess was "Bubba" as a former owner, blingin' up his horny whore.

If the price was good, nothing else was messed with it, I'd buy it and scrap that tarded piston.

Picture is too blurry to tell, but actual "jeweling" is a series of overlapping circular swirl marks in the metal.

Why would you spend the time to jewel something no one can see.

That bolt is an odd color... And yes, the piston is welded. That would be Century Arms fuckery at play. Typical in a WASR. Still, nice score OP, very nice. Combloc built from surplus. Can’t go wrong there. Shoot until you’re sick of it. Then sell it to me.

I would suspect someone did not like some discoloration on the piston and made it look 'purdy' like only a bubba could.

Thanks. Isn’t the color of the bolt mean it’s military spec heat treated ?

Typically its an error in surface finish due to the concentration of blu'ing solution.

Aside from the above, it's also a sign of age.

It's within the realm of possibility the bolt was produced in the '60s or '70s and has sat in a box since then, until it was used in a "new production" WASR.

Bubba it a person that would take a bolt handle and grind it down to make it look better to them. Cut down a full length wooden hand guard cause he didn't like it.
That sort of stuff.
