Default SAR-1 Furniture Choice

Yo, kind of a dumb question, but I keep going back and forth with the look I want for my SAR-1. I'll probably get another one so I don't run into this issue, but I'm wondering what you guys think looks the best out of pure boredom and curiosity.

You do know SAR1's came with at least 3, maybe 4' varieties of furniture.

I've got the real dark brown, smells like cat piss, version. Not changing.

Oh yeah they came in hardwood finished in different colors. My friend got one NIB with that dark dark brown wood set.

Nice. I think I might go back to the laminate myself. Looks better in the cold gloomy winter.

I'd stick with the 63 set myself. Would have trouble getting rid of the palm swell for the slabside too.

Mine isn’t a SAR-1. But it’s a Romy military export rifle with SAR marked selector. FA.
I can strongly recommend the Magpul

I always get stuck taking the upper hgs off, despite me doing this at least 5 times over with this rifle alone lol. Does anyone have like a specific method they like to use?

Dude I hate magpul, i'd never cut my handguard retainer off for anything either. Totally irreversible mod unless you possess the tools and know-how to press off the front sight and gasblock. If I ever had to run tactical stuff on my ak it'd only ever be Zenitco.

I clamp the rear of the gas tube lightly in a bench vise. Wear a heavy rubber glove for traction on the wood and to not get pinched. spins right off

Ok nice. I need to get a nice vice, usually it works in my hands but it can be painful and exhausting at times.

Another good way to get rid of the upper handguard is to put on gloves, firmly grip the tube over the handguard, and have a friend/wife take the cleaning rod, put it in the ”groove” on the gastube, and just twist the cleaningrod. Easy as pie.

I use a crescent wrench and grip and twist, works every time for me. I like the PM63 set.

Stalkers looks nice.
Refinish what you got or get some cheap laminated take offs and redo them.

Personaly unless you want a tacticool look stay with wood.
It dosent look bad now .
Good news it can be changed in a few minutes.

Yep, if you only have the AK, you can use a cleaning rod in the rear slot of the tube, or you can put the back end of the tube in the magwell and twist, voila

Eh, while I agree, dismantling a SAR-1 just to get it blued is kinda over the top.

I personally like Misha's donged SAR-1. If one was wanting to change, that'd be my choice. Especially since the laminates were that way to begin with. On Romanian's that is.
