I can't stand how boring the AKM furniture looks. I like the older AK-47 furniture though. But now I've really fallen in love with the Romanian Dong furniture (bought from Apex for $39). I had to refinish it with Minwax Sedona stain, and Amber Shellac to get this result. Now, if you know of a way to get my skinny muzzle to fit a slant brake then PM me...

The great thing about the Dong furniture is that it is authentic Romanian military, and since the SAR-1 is considered by some "as close to the real military AK as you can get in America" (minus the muzzle darnit) then the Dong furniture is a clear choice. Although now I'm considering putting Dongs on everything, even my AR-15's heh.

Yeah dong's are nice, I used to have a set on this rifle, but I didn't enjoy shooting with it so I switched it off.

Take any screwdriver and put the length of the driver in the slot at the base of the gas tube. Hold the driver steady with one hand, then just grab the wood and turn it with the other hand.

I like this method better than a vice or vice grips because it doesn't scratch the metal.

I prefer using the cleaning rod, because if the wood is a little ”swollen” as it can sometimes be on older/mistreated AK’s, you often need a little more momentum than a screwdriver.

Not built many kits I see Lol, no seriously, some are so bad and stuck only way is vise(to hold steady) ,tube upside down , and bump one edge of guard with rubber mallet while twisting to coax it to move. Care has to be taken not to damage it but some are stuck so bad any other method would ruin it anyway

I was getting to the fact unless one builds or has one built on an early kit .... your not going to have the correct blued w hardwood AKM.
With the exception of buying one someone did or one of the ones Atlantic sometimes offers.

While I don’t doubt that some are stuck that hard, I have yet to meet a handguard that doesn’t yield to the Mighty Cleaningrod of Gastube Destruction(+5 against undead and albanians)

There's a member here on the Market Place. I just saw him selling them again the other day.
