Default rear trunnion seating issue

I have a WASR that has been confirmed by an AK gunsmith that it has a rear trunnion seating issue. The gunsmith said it is not terrible but not perfect. Is this something that I should send the rifle in for warranty repair/replacement for?

If you are talking not lining up with the rear of the receiver, your gunsmith is a dumbass. Other than that what the hell is a rear trunnion seating issue? Rear receiver not in the grooves? Wood not all the way flush? Pics because this is a new one.

Wait a minute.
Is this one of those "muffler bearing" jokes gear heads like to pull on unsuspecting people?

As you can see. It appears that on one side of the receiver and the trunnion, I can see daylight in between it. And on the other side the receiver and trunnion fit flush and no daylight can be seen between it.

needs Moar Hammer

j/k
but likely the trunnion has a burr on the edge that shoulda been filed down before fitting into the rcvr.
or during setting the rivet it swelled while the receiver wasn't flush against the trunnion, either way its purely cosmetic IMO

Have you had your local psychic look at the rifle and tell you what kind of vibe it gave them? This is, from my experience, the most reliable source for diagnosing potential AK issues.

No. Just a small gap of nothing. I hope your "gunsmith" didn't charge you for his great advice.

One possible consequence from this condition: your buttstock may be slightly crooked when installed. If you look down the rifle, a rear trunnion installed a little bit crooked will put the butt stock out of line.

If the rivets have somehow loosened up, (possibly from the holes in the receiver being too large, allowing the trunnion to shift because of recoil/bolt carrier hitting it) you can hammer it back into place, drill a small hole on each side of the receiver & plug weld the trunnion to the receiver.

If it was me, I'd just shoot it like that & see if the rear trunnion gets any worse crooked. If no... Good to go. If the trunnion proves to be loose, weld it.

Is it loose? Does it malfunction? Looks within the normal range to me. None of these are perfect, some just look uglier than others.

Not an issue whatsoever.

Just sayin...

That can also happen from the rivet being pressed into the chamfer of the trunnion. As the rivet and receiver join together when the receiver is pulled into the chamfer the rear section of receiver can pull upward.

You can even see it on one of my videos where I am pressing the rear rivet into the hole. The receiver just starts to lift. Yours is more excessive so the chamfer in the trunnion may be a little deeper than need be.

It will work just fine, it's only a cosmetic issue.

Remember, most gun smiths at the local gun store have only ever messed with AR's. So they have absolutely no idea how the AK works, how it's fixed, or how to identify correctly anything wrong with them.
