Default Wasr 10/63 for Romak-1 (Updated with pics of Romak)

Would you trade a 1985 dated arsenal marked like new Wasr 10/63 for a Romak-1? The Wasr is one of the straightest AKM's I own. The Romak has been fired around 200 times and is like new otherwise. I know it came in around the time the Sar's did and is factory double stacked and dimpled. I would just buy the Romak but he wants to still have a rifle instead of money. I'll probably do the trade but just wanted to get opinions.

As long as the romak is straight and no issues I would do it because dimples and factory double stack.

Trade quick, then I will give you a nice wasr and $100 for your Romak1, I have been wanting one but do not see many.

This cocksucker is stalling me now. A little back story..... The Romak-1 he has I sold to him 15 years ago. It was my very first firearm I ever bought myself. I've tried to buy it back for the last 10 years and he wouldn't sell. For me it is more sentimental really BUT my Wasr I would put up against any $1000+ rifle out there. Its an older 10/63 with the receiver writing computer printed and not shitty electro pencil drawn in by hand. Its straight as an arrow and solid as they come. Mag well is as snug as my Sar's or Mak's with all magazine variants. I may just keep with what I got and just forget about it. He's also my boss man so it's something he can hold over me and get his kicks because I want it back so bad.

I would do it since it was your very first rifle and the SARs/Romak-1s are better than the wasrs simply because they have mag dimples. Your wasr sounds like a real good rifle though and it sucks having to lose good guns in any situation. Try buying it from him again maybe he’ll come around this time if he’s entertaining a trade?

I tried buying it and even offered $700. I offered the Wasr plus $100 one time and he won't budge. He is uneducated on AKM's and thinks I'm trying to get it back because its worth a lot more than I'm telling him. I told him fair market on it was around $700. He wants me to get an exact same rifle to trade him. Only thing I have close to "exact" would be one of my two Sar-1's and I'm not sure if I'd want to let one of them go. Would you trade a Sar-1 for it? Not sure if I would.

Hmm, ok, see if you can find any recently completed gun broker auctions, screenshot them and show it him. I’m pretty sure they are runnin 750-800. If you really really wanted it back I don’t think he’d turn down $800, especially after you show him the completed auctions.

Damn I didn't know they'd gotten up that high. Would you trade a Sar-1 for it?
Completed Gunbroker auctions on the Romak-1's are in the $650ish range in Oct. and Nov.

Romaks are better than SARs since nothing was changed or added by Century. They have factory gas pistons that were properly installed, not U.S. made pistons that were welded on. I would trade the SAR but it wouldn’t be easy. The WASR I would trade with cash without even getting close to a second thought. If you want to keep your SARs I would just try to bribe him like Tankboy suggested.

I suggest just letting it rest. I think the more you try and push him and convince him, the more stubbern he'll get. Plus, it sounds like you do have plenty of Romie AKs anyway, so....

You must know him..... LOL Thanks
I could trade him a Mak90 with rust underneath the thumbhole stock. It is straight cut but is rusted some. Only shows a touch with the stock on.....

Man I had two SAR-1s back in the day and often wonder where they are now. I see you're in NC, I wonder if you have them? Haha. Tough spot you're in there, I've been trying to get a Mauser back from a friend for years now and he won't budge. Tough call on the SAR but if you have two I think I'd trade one for the Romak.

One is a pawn shop find for $600 otd and the other is from an individual for $700 but came with a case of ammo, 3 30, 3 40, and a 10 round mag. I like them both just gotta weigh the options.

Wow. Nice looking rifle. Congrats on getting it back. Wish I had a chance to get my first rifle back. 1954 Tula sks. Paid $90.00 nib with all the goodies. Sold it and I'm still kicking myself in the butt over it.

It had been so long since I saw this rifle I forgot about the bakelite furniture and cheese grater. I paid $45 for the East German kit: side folder, grip, bakelite lower handguard, and upper handguard in the late 90's. I'm not sure where I got the cheese grater back then but I know I wouldn't have paid much for it. At the show in Charlotte Saturday I saw this same cheese grater for way over $100 by itself I'm thinking the guy had it closer to $150 maybe which is ridiculous.

Edit: After reading about the cheese graters I realize this one is Chinese and does bring a premium price. I'd never known, hell I didn't even remember putting it on LOL

Congrats on getting it back, that must have felt great!! That is a great looking and unique rifle and that's awesome that it hasn't been fired since you sold it to him.

He let me go ahead and take it yesterday so I brought it home and shined it up. Still just like brand new. Now I have to part with one of my Sar-1's or buy him a Sar-1. He knows (or thinks) that dimples are better so I might not be able to slide a Wasr by him. If I do give him a Sar-1 it is still a good deal considering what I got back? What you think?

Yes it is a good deal. Romak>SAR>WASR. Romaks in that condition are much harder to find than SARs.

Yeah I say it's a good deal also especially considering your personal attachment to that particular rifle. SAR 1s are certainly easier to find than that Romak.
