Here's a couple of my rifles wearing their new tula Bakelite mags. Sorry about pic quality, my phone doesn't do well. Yes, the bulgy has a mojo peep sight on it. I haven't even tried the sight out yet but I'm gonna put the original sight back on cause I can't abide by the mojo's ugliness.

No, I run single points on the Tac Maadi and the Polish, I have the original Polish sling as well. Standard Maadi will remain strapless for the time being. Do you have Egyptian Maadi slings?

The first build I ever did. 'Bout time I got around to posting this. I dove in head first on this one and probably bit off more than I could chew. In the end, I think it came out pretty damn good for a first build.

This rifle started life as an SSR-85C2 from ISD Bulgaria. For those who don't know, the 85C2 was a neutered AK sporter. I had to open up the mag well and take a huge chunk out of the rear trunnion so standard stocks would "fit." I used a virgin Bulgarian barrel, did all the cuts and holes myself (I'm proud of this). The components were taken from a milled Bulgarian underfolder kit. I had to shim the bakelite handguards in with some steel C channel that I cut to fit.

Without further adieu...

Here's the ISD receiver. It's a sturdy 1.6mm. Makes for a hefty firearm, and it was a bitch to open the magwell and rear end.

Here's the sight leaf. I re-did the color fill using a technique I learned from a guy named Soviet on a local board here in GA

Milled Bakelite handguards on a stamped receiver. Yes, it can be done, WITHOUT the wobble. You just have to rig it right...

Original SSR-85C2 markings, imported from TGI

Mag well opened up (shittily) by a noob (me) using a Dremel (looks like a sledgehammer).

But it's an AK, right? The damn mag well fits just fine!

So there she is. I've nicknamed her Sofia. Thanks to all who have shared their build and inspired me to create this bastardized Bulgarian!

Abide

Just a WASR 10 :/

Refinished the buttstock and gas tube cover.
Recently put in 74 brake,
US Palm BG,
Power Customs retaining plate,
cleaning rod, and buttstock kit,
Kalinka BP-02 side rail,
Primary Arms M4 red dot,
polished up the bolt/BC,
and polished up the tapco g2 trigger and hammer.

Hopefully my next one is gonna be a build, like most of guys have :/. I really wanna build one, just need to find a build party thats near me lol.

Just put this together yesterday. Need to take it to the range for test fire and breakin. Will put final finish on it afterwards.

Well, had to do away with six of the evil parts and its a new U.S. chrome-lined barrel that will last.
Didn't want to change any of the cosmetics of the rifle. Once the metal parts are refinished, you'd never know the difference. Unless you're looking for manufacturer stamps.

Sure, that's cool.

Still, I doubt you "did away with" the original barrel by choice.

I've got a rifle built from a similar kit, but with the Polish barrel and "Khyber Pass" style, (with Tula steel side-folder), instead.

Unfortunately the kit I got didn't have an original barrel and I tried to find one for a respectable price - HA!

Well, my 10/63 found a new look. Before I go into detail, I'd like to give the disclaimer that I'm a college student, which means that I seldom leave the states of "broke" and "having money for beer." This WASR is my only AK, and I've owned it for two years now. The upgrades I've chosen are a mix of personal taste and the best of what I could afford.

I'm normally a fan of the authentic look, but I wanted modern niceties like an optic and light. I decided to go for the most minimal, "practical-tactical" route, and mount it all on an Ultimak while keeping Kalashikov-Kosher for the rest. The Optic is a TRS-25, the light is a Surefire G2 on a KZ offset mount, which doesn't quite fit perfect, but it's functional. The donkey dong grip really provided a nice companion to the Ultimak rail, it positions the thumb perfectly for the light, and gives some more room for the hand to stay away from the potentially hot metal. In this photo the light is a cheap LED placeholder, the Surefire was still in the mail.

A little after that, I ran into some spare cash, and decided to work a little on the ergonomics, which unfortunately meant that the traditional stuff went off the gun for a while. I installed a US PALM Battle Grip, which is definitely an improvement, although I dunno if it quite lives up to hype surrounding it. The US PALM Attack Rack is a very nice piece of kit, though, and I got a nice deal on it, which gives me very mixed feelings about their company. I bought an AK30 magazine from them, and to this date it's the only magazine that's failed to feed in my rifle. Anyways, the handguard is Russian issue with a heatsheild, and the new magazines are the 15 dollar Polish ones from Aim Surplus. They have plastic lugs and feed lips, but WASR users with mag-wobble problems might want to look into them anyways, they fit extremely snugly in the gun. The Krebs safety provides a lot quicker handling, but it feels a little loose, and will occasionally over-travel in the "safe" position, and overlap the receiver cover a bit. Anyone else have this problem? It's driving me nuts.

The last little update is a little trick I thought I might share with other TRS-25 users. If you're mildly OCD like me, and get upset about the bright yellow letting on the side of your Optic, a coin can be used to remove the paint without damaging the finish of the red dot. I think it looks a lot nicer this way.

The only thing I might find myself wanting in the future is a nice polymer buttstock. As much as I love the quirky looks of the East German wire folder, it isn't the most comfortable thing in the world after a couple hours of shooting.

Looking good... my AK has most of the same equipment. Yes the Krebs safety dose feel a little loose and sometimes over-travels from safe past the fire position. I just got a KZ offset mount but haven't been to the range with it on. Seems like it will hold the light OK but mounting hardware is suspect. I guess as long as the mount is not removed and put back on a lot it will be OK.
